Kehinde wiley is one of my favorite artist. I first heard of his work from a contemporary art magazine called High Fructose. I really like all of his work because it combines old school and new school. The vibrant colors and intricate details are incredible. The portrait's also extremely realistic which i really like. Over the summer when visiting the museum, I was pleasantly surprised to see the museum had one of his pieces. I now make sure that each time i visit i got and see this piece.
At first i wasn't too crazy about this piece. I am normally not a big fan of old art because to be honest sometimes its kind of boring. However, after looking at it more i started to appreciate that it's not just painted on a boring canvas. Also after hearing the woman talk about how it is probably one of the most impressive pieces in the museum i became more impressed.
I wouldn't say i hate this piece but i am not a big fan. I just don't get it. I find it quite boring. I mean its just a blue shape. I am sure there could be some meaning behind it but to me its just a big unimpressive shape.
