This is the practice drawing I made for the contour drawing final. It was the first time I drew a portrait using contour line or pen in general. I found it quite difficult because I realized i messed up the proportions of the face quite terribly and because i couldn't erase it I had to just keep going with it. It was also hard to do because the girl I was drawing kept moving so I had to make a lot of assumptions. Although I ran into difficulties, contour line as a style is something I quite like. |
Did you use a fluid line?
I did use a fluid line for this entire drawing. You can see this because every little detail is connected to another detail. The parts of the drawing which would normally not be attached to any other lines of the drawing are. For example, the eyes of the girl on the right are attached to her hair line.
Explain how your knowledge and creating practice studies with contour line contributed to the success of your piece.
The practice pieces helped me get a hang of drawing with contour line. It taught me to be more patient and observant so i don't make too make mistakes which i can't erase.
Describe the difference in your contour line drawing to an outline drawing.
The contour line drawing shows all the little details of the subject. An outline drawing would only consist of the outer edge of the subject. It would lack all the detail on the inside.
Explain how your interpretation of line is essential in capturing the look of the room.
Every artist has their own style and everyone see details in different ways. Some people may choose to connect an eye to a nose, whereas someone else may choose to connect an eye to the edge of the face. All these little details add up and will ultimately change the way an image is captured.
What did you learn from completing this drawing? If you could recreate your piece what would you do differently?
I learned that I really enjoy contour line. It creates for a very visually interesting piece due to all the fine lines ad details that are shown. I also learned to slow down which will prevent myself from having so many proportion related issues. If I could recreate this piece I would slow down and be more careful with the face of the girl on the right because I wasn't paying much attention and really messed up the placement and proportions of her features.
