I haven't used acrylics in ages. However, I was in a time crunch and needed to make this in one day. I ended up finishing it in four hours, but thats besides the point. I had to use acrylics because oils wouldn't dry fast enough for me to be able to layer the strings over everything else. Had this been done in oils I probably would have liked it more because I like the look of oils better. This being said, I do still like the piece. Is it my favorite? No. Is it the best thing I've ever made? Definitely no. However, for something I made in a time crunch I would say it turned out no too shabby. I mostly like it because of the concept. Its a heart being weighed down by bricks with balloons trying to help it fly away. I think everyones felt a time when they just wanted to escape but they were being weighed down or held back by something. Technically speaking, the heart is the best part of the piece. I showed a lot of color variation and it looks fairly realistic. The balloons could be a bit cleaner, but I like the more texturized approach that I took with them. The bricks and grass absolutely leave something to be desired. The bricks are sloppy and lack color variation. They just seem bland in retrospect to the colorful balloons and pink heart. The grass could use more color variation and just be more realistic. It got shortcutted due to the rush I was in. Overall, I like the piece. It just isn't something I am trying to show off.
