Last week, my table and i created a spoon tree. None of us really wanted to take it home so we figured we could melt and destroy it. We wanted to make an environmental statement. The spoon tree is a literal representation of, well, a tree. Since the tree was made of plastic it was easy for us to destroy by simply spending a few minutes melting it with a heat gun. Very similarly normal trees growing in the the wild are easy to destroy with the simple use of an axe, chainsaw, etc. And with the destruction of trees comes the destruction of habitats and species. Melting our spoon tree represents this destruction. |

We have been waiting all year for the "Artist Collaborate" unit to make a spoon tree. Taking a bunch of spoons, a PVC pipe, and paint we are going to make a tree. We are still trying to figure out somethings, but the base of the tree will be made with a brown painted PVC pipe with clear spoons glued all around it. For the top part, we were thinking about using a wire structure for support then making the spoons branch off from each other. I, however, am trying to push the idea of partially melting the spoons to sculpt flower looking pieces that we can glue to a styrofoam ball (video below). We aren't sure which direction we're going in yet. As far as rolls go, everyone is just going with the flow and doing whatever.
work with also came in handy when trying to put the tape down on the stairs. One of us would stand at the bottom of the stairs and direct the other where to place the tape. I imagine this would be 10000x harder to do alone. It would also probably take ages.
